Candle Man

Haven't played a good Unity developed game in a while but decided to give Candle Man a shot once I saw it uploaded on Kongregate and I am glad I did. While Candle Man is admittedly a simple action platformer game in a 3D world it looks amazing and really showcases Unity's potential.

The brief story behind Candle Man is you play an animatronic candle who wants to find out why he can move and is different than all the stationary candles. From here you traverse simple 3D platformer levels that are mostly pitchblack. The "gimmick" here is you can light yourself on fire to provide the needed light but only for a total of 10 seconds per level. This means you'll light yourself for a brief moment to get a look at the pitfalls and layout and then walk in darkness. Rinse, wash and repeat till the end of the level. Levels are full of typical obstacles like holes, fireballs and spinning sawblades.

While simple, Candle Man looks amazing and that is really what I liked about it. The low lighting created a nice atmosphere that you don't get often with flash games or Unity games. Hopefully we'll see more games in general come out that look and play as well as Candle Man in the future.
