Finally the sequel to the tower defense powerhouse Kingdom Rush has graced online flash gaming communities; Kingdom Rush Frontiers!
Right off the bat, if you loved the original Kingdom Rush you'll love Kingdom Rush Frontiers. It looks the same and plays pretty much the same as well. Of course, that could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it but in this case its pretty much a good thing. So, pretty much all the basic tower types are the same. You have your barracks, archer and mage towers as well as your two basic spells did not change (reinforcements and meteor spell). Now, the upgraded tower versions did change and this time around you'll upgrade to axeman towers, necromancers, super mechs, etc. I do wish that in Frontiers they just kept EVERY tower available but I understand that would never happen. As it is I'm happy with the new tower types for the most part and some of them are very interesting.
The biggest change in Kingdom Rush Frontiers comes in the form of a more advanced hero system. Now heroes were not part of the original Kingdom Rush game and only came later in an update. Frontiers starts out with them and they are more developed. This time around you can upgrade your individual heroes and they keep all upgrades to them. You basically earn stars to upgrade general things as well as earn stars to upgrade your heroes. The great thing about this flash version of Kingdom Rush Frontiers is that you can get all the heroes without paying just by having an ArmorGames online account. This already puts it higher than the mobile versions where the extra heroes cost more than the game itself.
There are a few other minor changes in Kingdom Rush Frontiers from the original. For instance, there is an in game shop you can use coins to buy single use items to help you in levels. These can instantly freeze or destroy enemies and stuff like that. However, in general all the changes are fairly minor or just changing tower types from A to B so Kingdom Rush Frontiers doesn't really seem like a true sequel. Still an amazing game that you should play right away but it hasn't deviated much or taken too many risks.
